Smart Apartment buildings are the future.
But that future has to be integrated today. As the sole designer at UpHome Solutions, my job was to create the interface and UX for the canadian apartment building management software. The software was built around Chameleon Smart Home devices integrated into an UpHome Condominium.
The Dashboard

The Dashboard, a pivotal component of the Access Control site, offers concierges a centralized hub with vital information and easy access to key functionalities. It encompasses:
Main Screen
Analysis Widgets: Real-time updates on Network Status, visitor count, and general building information.
Information System (Top section)
• Unread Messages.
• Active Lights and Open Doors count.
Notification Log (On the right)
• Instant visibility into the 20 most recent event log entries.
• Prompt notifications for connection issues and errors.
• Track door openings and log-in events from Keypads and UpHome Mobile Applications.
Cameras
Building Security Command Center
The Cameras page is your centralized command center for monitoring security cameras in the apartment building. Key features include:
Tab Bar for Floor Selection: Easily switch between floors or view all cameras at once.
Grid Layout: Organized display of cameras for quick overview and access.
Large Camera Feed: Detailed view with playback mode and direct door control integration.
Door Accesses
Efficient Door Control and Monitoring
The Doors section centralizes door management and access control, providing real-time monitoring. Key features:
Door Controls: Remotely open and close doors with virtual buttons. Toggle switches lock doors open for convenient access.
Door Status Monitoring: Track door status in real-time for a secure environment. Receive alerts for open doors and unauthorized access attempts.
Camera Integration: Access live video streams for enhanced visual monitoring. Seamlessly switch to camera section from individual doors for comprehensive monitoring.
Design Process
Throughout the design process, I've kept the user at the center of our product, ensuring that the final product would meet users needs and be easy to use.
User Interviews
I've conducted user research interviews with digital marketers, canadian smart home integrators, and the construction company CEO to ensure UpHome Access Control meets their needs. They emphasized a user-friendly interface that saves time. Here are some of the insights that we gained by conducting user interviews.
Competitive Analysis
Our competitors have higher prices, complex user interfaces, limited analytics and device error feedback and external communication channels. UpHome seeks to provide brands and marketers with a simple, all-in-one building management solution.
